I managed to push through pain and discomfort for many years, adapting exercise and home routines until I couldnt stand the knee pain anymore and am now set for two knee replacements over the next year. What a difference having the expertise of PT PhD Rhonda has made in my quality of life! Her evaluation and care plan has controlled my pain with minimal meds by strengthening and preparing me for surgery and recovery. First Settlement PT stands far above the ordinary when it comes to patient- centered, expert care: Manager Jamie was welcoming, competent and super-helpful, keeping comfort, order, 4and treatment access foremost. Tiffany, also at the front desk held the mood steady and patient flow organized as well. Many staff showed friendly, competent caring and encouragement to others while I was in the treatment areas. Erica, Reagan and Ashlyn shone with love and kindness. Teamwork and atmosphere got me to a point where I can carry on at home until surgery with equipment I copied from them and exercises they taught me. Now facing my first knee replacement with confidence, I am assured that my recovery PT will be in the best of hands, and look forward to seeing you again!

They always listen to my concerns and adjusted exercises when appropriate. And always encouraged to push through on the good days. I highly recommend the South Charleston branch. They pay attention to what your needs are as well as give you plenty of encouragement. The big draw for me is the pool and those jets make you feel great at the end of your workout.

I have had tremendously successful health improvement by participating in physical therapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy for several months at First Settlement Physical Therapy.  The therapists are so friendly, encouraging, supportive and I have learned an incredible amount of information on how my body and brain work and what to do in  becoming as healthy as I can be. Balancing myself as I stand was challenged by the activities I was guided through by physical therapy - this has overall increased how I use my upper and lower body to be as strong as I can. Working through speech therapy was a way to utilize my intentions to think creatively in meeting goals and speaking sensibly in meaningful ways.   This was a new way to learn and I was also taught facial exercises so that one side of my face was no longer tight and sagging. My problem solving capabilities and strengthening my vision was what the occupational therapists guided me through.  Many mind games were conducted and I had to patiently learn how to meet the challenges in completing these satisfactorily.  The vision exercises were purposeful and fun!  My ophthalmologist was impressed with the eye exercises I described that I was practicing. I am very appreciative with the staff that supported, guided and cheered me on my recovery from surgery.  I am proceeding forward in meeting my health goals and I highly recommend First Settlement Physical Therapy as a partner in my journey!  And for your journey!  Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The people here are amazing. I hit the back of a stop semi truck going almost 80mph on the interstate. Wheelchair bond and hospitalized for three months. I started coming here and within 5 months I can fully use my left hand again and can do jumping jacks. With these people’s help I beat all the odds and cut my recovery in half. You’ll be luckily to work with any of these fine folks as long as you have a positive attitude like these people gave me. They trained me on what I can do at home, school, and work. One lady even told me how to help my 803-year-old mother on how to stand up every hour from watching television to rock side to side and then take a foot forward and walk back and forth to help her with her balance if she wants to stay out of the hospital from falling.

But hopefully they get a new one in and it would be someone as good as the last one. Pelvic floor therapy is hard work. I will warn you, but it’s good exercise exercises to understand a mom‘s postpartum body. But most of all I really liked how good all the other therapists were for my little boy when we had to come to therapy they were all very understanding and kept him busy while I did exercises.

She has really taught Justin so much about communication and listening. Also, she has gone above and beyond to work with our schedule, staying later so that we can see her. Then had to stop that for a foot surgery. Thru both recovery periods I received amazing wonderful care. Pool therapy helped me so much. The therapist and techs are amazing,kind and so helpful. The spasms and inability to control my voice were frightening. Dr. Jeremy Tiu recommended speech therapy and we were able to get me scheduled in a timely manner at First Settlement in So. Charleston. Their therapists explained my condition and their suggested treatment. From the first session they  helped me to “hear” my voice and recognize how I could make changes that would lead to healing and restoration. Thank you Paula for sharing your expertise and Addie for filling in when Paula was not available. I feel like I have recovered my voice and am prepared to keep it healthy.

First my lower back, with that I got “ aquatic therapy” then a new knee, now  I’m finishing up shoulder therapy! I can’t tell you how much I’m going to miss coming here, I’m going to miss the “Staff” most of all! They are Family! I don’t want to get injured anymore, but if I do, my first call is FSPT! I had limited use of my arm and wrist after breaking my arm and having it casted. They assessed the situation and established an exercise plan. My experience was excellent. I observed the staff with other, more seriously injured patients. They were kind, empathetic, patient, and professional. They were hands on working hard with the patients to improve their ability to use their fingers, arms, shoulders, etc. The support/administrative staff were very kind and helpful. Charleston WV on three separate occasions -- following a labrum repair of my left shoulder ten years ago and recently for both prehab and post surgical rehab of right reverse-shoulder replacement. Experienced, knowledgeable therapists coordinated with my surgeons to provide excellent PT services. With their professional guidance, I have always been ahead of schedule with good results. The facility offers an array of exceptional equipment to compliment the wonderful staff. Patients are treated with kind respect. Utilizing their services has been and continues to be my privilege. Jesse and Brady are both knowledgeable, caring, and fun people. They provided me clear and detailed home exercises, and created a PT plan that suited my goals for recovery. Sarah worked the different stretches to improve my back.  Also they provided dry needling which helped a lot. I recommend their services. Each and every session I have ever attended has been first rate.  This last time I was there for knee strengthening exercise.  They helped beyond my expectations.  I am able to walk my dogs further now than in the last three years. The staff, as always, is professional, concerned, and very understanding.  I don't know how they do it but they do. They always make you do more than you think you are capable of and you will work  every minute of the hour you are there. Then slowly, you find yourself doing more and more and on it goes.

I was extremely limited in range of motion, strength and function.  Jesse, OTR/L and several highly competent OT and COTA students began their treatment.   Twenty visits later I have completed therapy with full active Range of motion and functional strength for all activities.  The staff I worked with were all fabulous.   The location is very convenient.  If you are in need of occupational therapy services I highly recommend them.

This company provides one on one physical therapy, they work as hard as the patient will work.   The staff coach their patients to work through the difficulties and to challenge themselves. I was introduced to them following an injury to my ankle requiring work conditioning to prepare me to return to work. While their professional and friendly staff encourage me to reach my fullest potential physically, they adapted the program to meet my individual capabilities. Everyone on the OT team is extremely skilled, knowledgeable, compassionate and very personable. Each member of the OT team contributed to my care and brought a unique perspective to my case. A special thanks to Jesse Davis who worked to prepare my shoulder for surgery. I returned to FSPT for OT after my surgery to regain movement and strength. A special thanks to both Cara Vandale and Evie Ververeli for their post surgery OT care. The OT team has contributed greatly to my overall recovery.

My husband also went there after hip replacement.  The staff is wonderful to work with, very knowledgeable and caring.  Everyone works well together providing a group effort on the therapy needed to get the most beneficial results.  Jessica was quick to pick up on my difficulties and able to adjust therapy for my benefit.  The friendly atmosphere somehow made therapy fun.  I wouldn't consider going anyplace else for therapy. Too often we don't take the time to thank those who've really helped us and made a difference.  Thank you to the Staff at First Settlement!

I definitely made the right decision, what a great place for therapy! The staff are one big family unit that helps each other out as well as the patient.  My therapist, Allie Oxley, was super nice, encouraging, and very professional.  She is very knowledgeable regarding the proper recovery procedure. I was greeted by friendly office personnel as soon as I entered the lobby and they were very accommodating in scheduling appointments. I never waited more than a couple of minutes before Allie came out to take me into the gym. The gym is an open atmosphere where everyone gets to know you and follow you through your recovery. When needed, I will not hesitate to select First Settlement. Thank you Allie and Staff.

The staff have been very resourceful and energetic when it comes to finding different activities to suit his needs. Everyone knows his name and he looks forward to coming 2 times a week!! The aids are always upbeat and attentive. The positive energy and motivation flows through the entire facility. I have witnessed ALL AGES leave with smiles on their faces. Out of all the therapy places that my grandson has went to this place is the best my grandson has been going there for 3 years now and they are very very good with him they are very professional at what they. These people are the BEST! My husband goes to OT and my daughter goes to PT at this facility. Both aspects of this business are sensational! I have been treated great by all staff members. They are extremely knowledgeable in their profession, but able to put treatment into terms that is easily understandable. I was apprehensive about the pain that I would incur during treatment, and they have worked with me one on one until I could get past it. Overall great experience, I have felt at home (comfortable) since I walked in the door. Highly recommend for anyone needing Physical Therapy treatment.

First Settlement's physical therapists and physical therapy assistants are more knowledgeable, empathetic, and hands-on than I've experienced in the past at another facility where I felt like a number.  Everyone knows my name and my story, and they don't address every particular kind of pain with one prescribed set of stretches and exercises.  Very tailored and effective therapy, and I would recommend this place to anyone who needs physical therapy.
